A day in the life of an Engineer at Mayfair Fire & Security

This blog reveals the real insider to what it is like to be an Engineer at Mayfair Fire & Security. We asked our engineers a variety of questions, which they answered in their own words. Let’s find out what they said!

What is it like to work as an Engineer at Mayfair Fire & Security?

I enjoy my job a lot. In my 15 years here, I have been treated like a family member rather than just a number. I enjoy the different aspects of the job as I work with a mix of commercial and domestic clients. The social side of the job is great, as I meet new people every day!

How do you cope when it is busy?

I find it easier to break tasks down and take one thing at a time. If I feel pressured, my team members are always on hand to help. The key is to take it steady. If you rush, you are more likely to make mistakes, which will result in bad customer feedback.

What is the most satisfying part of the job?

I enjoy doing brand new installations as it enables me to enhance my skill set. You feel satisfied once you figure it out, just like solving a puzzle. When customers leave you kind feedback, it is even better. You leave the job knowing that the customer feels safe and secure with their new security system.

What part of the job do you enjoy the most?

I think this is a personal preference. However, I personally enjoy getting involved in larger commercial jobs. In the past, I have done system installations for the Police, City Councils, and Schools.

What part of the job do you enjoy the least?

Emergency callouts are my least favourite. You can get a callout at any time of day or night, which can be tiring. However, we always ensure that someone is on hand to sort the problem as soon as possible. We also have a rota, so the job is shared between colleagues.
