Queen Elizabeth II
Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of England, 1952-2022.

It is with deep sorrow that we pay our respects to Elizabeth Alexandra Mary, Queen of the United Kingdom since the 6th of February 1952. You will always be remembered by all of us in the UK and by others across the globe. You have served our country with commitment and respect for over 70 years, and your service is greatly appreciated.

Queen Elizabeth’s journey to the throne

More than 100 million people around the world looked at Queen Elizabeth II as their monarch.

As the firstborn of the Duke and Duchess of York, she was third in line to the throne, and no one imagined she would one day rein. But the abdication of her uncle, Edward VIII, put her father, George the VI, on the throne, and Princess Elizabeth became air to the crown.

In 1947 Princess Elizabeth married her first love, lieutenant Philip MountbattenIn 1952, at the young age of 25, Princess Elizabeth was on a tour of Kenya with her husband when the news came through that the King had died. She returned home, Queen of England.

The longest living monarch in British history

Queen Elizabeth, born in 1926, lived for 96 years. On the 9th of September 2015, Elizabeth became the longest reigning monarch in British history, surpassing Queen Victoria. Elizabeth served the nation for seven decades, unshakably committed to the rituals of her role amid epic social and economic change and family scandal. The royal family sadly announced her death online on the 8th of September 2022, saying she had died peacefully.
